Ecological research plots

SALIX conducts long-term ecological monitoring using permanent research plots and transect surveys to measure changes in plant biodiversity over time. Unlike floristic inventories, which document species richness, ecological monitoring is designed to detect trends in species composition, abundance, and community structure.

Permanent plots allow for repeat sampling across years, providing defensible data on shifts in native species cover, conservatism, invasive species expansion, and overall ecological condition. This approach supports restoration evaluation, adaptive management, mitigation compliance, and long-term conservation planning.

Monitoring protocols may include quantitative vegetation sampling, cover-class estimation, species frequency tracking, and Floristic Quality Assessment (FQA) metrics applied through time.

Field services are billed at $75 per hour and travel time is billed at $50 per hour, plus $0.725 per mile from Bloomington, Indiana. For sites located more than two hours from Bloomington, lodging expenses may apply. Data management, analysis, and reporting are billed at the standard hourly rate based on project scope.
