SALIX conducts rare plant species surveys and monitoring to document population status, distribution, and habitat condition for conservation and regulatory purposes. Surveys are designed to confirm species presence, delineate population boundaries, estimate abundance, and assess immediate threats or management needs.

For conservation-focused projects, SALIX submits formal documentation to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), including the agency’s element occurrence report. Deliverables include a GIS shapefile delineating population boundaries and all population occurrences, habitat notes, photographic documentation, and an approximate count of individuals or stems, depending on species growth form and population size.

Monitoring may also be conducted for development planning, mitigation compliance, restoration evaluation, or long-term population tracking. Repeat visits can be structured to assess trends in population size, reproductive success, and habitat quality over time.

Field services are billed at $75 per hour for organizations and $65 per hour for private landowners. Travel time is billed at $50 per hour, plus $0.725 per mile from Bloomington, Indiana. For sites located more than two hours from Bloomington, lodging expenses may apply. Data management, GIS processing, and reporting are billed at the standard hourly rate based on project scope.
